When one first meets Dr. Sage Campione, they are often struck by her sincerity. Its a valuable trait to have in her profession as a chiropractor and wellness expert. She is able to quickly put her patients at ease with her gentle nature and willingness to listen.
That, she says, is key when it comes to understanding her patients and their needs. We dont listen much anymore as a society and its so important, especially when it comes to your health, she said. Listening is what she puts at the forefront of her business, Wellness On Main, located at 115 Main Street, St. Simons Island. There, Campione offers an integrative and comprehensive approach to health care, offering elite services that promote wellness on all levels. Were not here to interfere or take over traditional medicine, were here to complement that. We integrate conventional medicine with natural, holistic and functional medicine, she said. Campione feels that this type of treatment allows patients to be their best selves. Through this approach, they explore a persons diagnostic and systematic health and history to help them discover the best path for the future. That includes diet, supplementation and exercise regime. But, she adds, she also takes note of their overall sense of wellbeing. How I define that is how healthy are their relationships and how healthy is their inner self. How much self care do they do. Self care includes sleep, quiet time prayer or meditation, reflective time, she said. I use the example that you can create this beautiful gourmet meal, that hits every nutritional button and every color. Its beautiful but when you sit down you have this funky attitude and you eat it. It still turns to poison in your body. Your internal has to match your external to exemplify total health. We help people with all of that. To begin, Campione and her team take a comprehensive history of the patient, really tuning into each element of the person. They do that through an online questionnaire that offers background, history and perspective on where the patient is today. From there, Campione meets with the patient, taking time to assess their overall health during a free consultation. Our website has a button that says free consultation that prompts them to a questionnaire which gets into some deep aspects of their health. That goes directly to my inbox. And from there, they set up a completely free consultation and we meet for 20 minutes, she said. We believe its important that its a good match. That we fit well together. So its important to do that first and decide if we want to invest in treatment. Locals can come to her new office in Plantation Village to conduct the consultation and receive their care whether its chiropractic treatments or something more. And, in addition to the integrative treatment, Campione also embraces technology as an avenue to treating patients. One of the unique items in her arsenal is a very specialized machine that can alleviate a variety of pain. Its called Cutting Edge Laser, or C.E. laser, and it comes from Milan, Italy. This laser is no where for 70 miles. The nearest one is Jacksonville. Its a class four laser, only a physician can own this, she said. In Europe, they are using it for everything. Its known to repair torn ligaments in shoulders, depending upon how bad the tear it but its helped people avoid surgery. The painless treatment takes only about 45 minutes for the initial session. Subsequent sessions are shorter. Each one, however, goes a long way toward restoreing a persons physical health. And, Campione says, with each treatment the results improve. It builds on the previous treatment and it just gets better and better, she said. Now its not covered by insurance but its very affordable ... like $60. And weve seen amazing results and can really help people get back to their active lifestyle. Thats her mission to help locals stay as active and happy as possible. And shes excited to do that in a place thats become a true home for her. Weve been coming here for 18 years on vacation and just fell in love with it. I love that there are so many active people here, she said. But prior to moving here, I had practiced in Tampa ... and I was an Army medic in Desert Storm. These days Campione is enjoying settling into a slower pace and embracing island life. In her spare time, she can be found reading and researching new medical information and spending time with her family. Im really a geek, she said with a laugh. Theres just so much coming out. You have to stay on top of it. But I married my childhood sweetheart and we have two dogs, Braccio, which is Italian for to hug and Caramia, which is Italian for my dear.
